Personal information we may collect
Personal information is information about an identifiable individual. We collect personal information for the purpose of conducting our business and to meet our legal obligations.

- Passport and Driver’s Licence
- IRD Number
- Any other information which assists us in conducting our business, providing and marketing our services and meeting our legal obligations.
How we may collect personal information
We may collect personal information from you by email, phone, face-to-face meetings, automated forms, and through our website.
Our server may record information when you visit our website through cookies. The cookies will collect information in respect of your use of our website, including the date, time and URL of the pages you visit.
Purposes for which we use your personal information
Personal information we collect and hold may be used by us (as applicable):
- to represent and advise you (if you are the client) or to represent and advise the client;
- for dealing with commercial or legal conflicts;
- to comply with our legal obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 (the AML Act); and
- to comply with our obligations to Land Information New Zealand under the Land Transfer Act 2017.
In many cases, if personal information is not provided as requested, we may not be able to carry out the instructions or provide our services.
Legal basis for the collection of your personal information
We process your personal information based on your written or oral consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing information based on consent before its withdrawal.
When we may disclose your information to other people
We may need to disclose personal information to third parties (including other entities or individuals who assist us in providing services or who perform functions on our behalf, including in the course of representing or advising you (if you are the client) or the client. We may disclose personal information if:
- it is required or authorised by you or your client (if you are representing the client)
- it is required or authorised by law or the Law Society’s Rules of Professional Conduct
- it is required by law (including the laws of any foreign jurisdiction).
Besides our staff, we share this information with:
- Land Information New Zealand in order to comply with audit requirements for e-dealing.
- First AML, a third party agent to assist with our customer due diligence requirements under the Act.
- Lighthouse, a digital conveyancing platform service.
- Website services professionals.
Accessing your personal information
Under the Privacy Act 2020, individuals have rights of access to, and to request correction of, their personal information. You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
